The Foyer Project

Read MoreYou want to know something funny? The whole reason I began this blog was because of my bathroom - a bathroom I have yet to reveal. I'm a terrible blogger. Even though I've technically been blogging since last February, the truth is I've only actually been blogging about 4 or 5 months. I was really, really busy finishing up school. But back to the bathroom. There wasn't much I hated about our house. I disliked plenty but only hated two things. First and foremost, I hated our master bathroom. The gentleman we bought the house from remodeled it in an attempt to sell the house. Supposedly, he invested around $10,000 redoing it. How did it look? Check it out...
Read MoreI know I declared 2014 the year of the master bedroom, but I've decided to get a jump start on a few things. One of those things is window coverings. When we bought the house, terrible maroon blinds hung on the windows. Of course I took them down immediately.
Since the windows are standard size, I was able to buy in-stock roman shades at Lowe's for around $25/each. I knew they weren't what I wanted long-term, but knew they would work for now.
Read MoreAdmit it - you read that heading and thought "well duh. That's what consignment is - paying you for stuff you sell." Yes, but that isn't where this post is going. No, this post is about the sweet deal I scored this weekend by shopping at a consignment store. Have you ever had a piece of furniture that you lusted over? The kind that makes you go to a website more often than you should hoping to catch it on sale? For me it was the Printer's Writing Desk from Pottery Barn.
Read More2013 isn't even officially over and I'm planning ahead for 2014. So, what's on the docket for 2014? I've decided to make 2014 the year of the master bedroom. You see, my master bedroom is perhaps the most undone room in the whole house. The master bathroom is 99% finished and is gorgeous (I promise there will be a big reveal of that project in the next few weeks). You would think that with such an amazing bathroom the bedroom attached would be awesome. You would think. How bad it is? Let me show you....
Read MoreI don't know if you've picked up on this before, but I love Remodelaholic!!!! I've been following Cassity and her crew for a few years and just love her site. One of the things that I really love is that she always pays it forward. She is constantly featuring projects from other DIYers on her site and loves to help other bloggers out. I'm honored to say that this week I will be one of the bloggers she shows some love to! Remember this guy?
Read MoreI know, I know. I haven't been on here in AGES. I've been a little busy. I finished up my last semester of college (better late than never) and have been working on the house non-stop. One of the projects I took on was the bottom half of the stairs. Just to remind you, they looked a little something like this:
Read MoreI would love to tell you that I am about to upload a finished project but I can't because, well, I'm not finished. I'm close. Very, very close. And if not for the fact that Lowe's was out of the trim I am using, I would be finished. ;-( I am, though, far enough along that I really want to show all of you my progress. I know it's been a bit since I posted, so you may not remember that I decided to turn the board and batten along my staircase into picture frame moulding. That part is DONE!
Read More** Sorry for the small pics. I thought I would save them down for quicker loading but saved a little too small. A few months ago I posted a mood board for my son's big boy room. I started working on it the day I posted the mood board and just finished it YESTERDAY! You would think that for as long as it took I would have done a ton to it. Nope. It's just been really, really busy around here.
Read MoreI know what you are thinking: Well it's happened again. Jill has given up on the blogging. Actually, I've been blogging like crazy over at Living the Healthier Life. And believe it or not, I've been working on the house... a lot. In one of my last posts I said I was going to work on my board and batten. The regular board and batten doesn't fit with the house's overall theme and, well, I just like picture frame moulding, so I started working on it. And then my miter saw broke. So I ran out and got a new one except that I grabbed the wrong box. I live about 30 minutes from the closest HD so I thought I'd just use the little 7 inch saw I grabbed on accident. I was about 2 cuts in when I realized it was quite possibly the worst saw I'd ever purchased. Sigh... so for a week nothing got done. I went back to HD, exchanged saws and headed back to work on my moulding. I actually got quiet a bit done.
Read MoreOk, well maybe it's not exactly Fall here in Texas, but it's getting close! We are expected to have a high of 79 this weekend. Woot woot! Once the weather starts cooling off I actually begin to want to decorate for Fall. I wasn't sure exactly the direction I wanted to go until my friend, Jayme, sent me a picture of a "different" kind of pumpkin. When I saw it I immediately knew I had to have it. Jayme is one of those artsy people that I will never be. Sure I can build stuff but I'm not so good with the crafty stuff - that's where Jayme comes in! She sent me a few texts to ask for a general direction and got to work. So, what is it that she made...
Read MoreI had decided that instead of building a storage bench for my office, my weekend would be better sent finishing some projects (I'm a notorious start-but-not-finsh project kind of gal). One of the things I've really been needing to do involves my board and batten. When I put it on I loved it. And I still do. But it's just looking too craftsman for my taste. After going to Europe this summer I fell in love with picture frame moulding. I think it is so classic - and if it is good enough for the palaces in Europe I'm pretty sure it would work here in Texas. I headed out to get my supplies and decided that while I was at it I'd pick up the rail cap for the top part of the b&b. About 1/2 way in my saw miter saw broke. My miter saw that I've had for 10 years. My miter saw that was the first power tool I ever bought. Yep. It's gone. So with that, all I was able to do was go from this:
